One of the most common questions our Santa Barbara crew hears is: "Will you actually take this?" Short answer: yes, almost certainly. Long answer: there are a few items every junk removal company has to handle differently because of state law and local landfill rules. Here is the full picture, so you know exactly what to expect before we pull up.
What a Santa Barbara Junk Removal Crew Hauls Every Day
If it is not toxic and it fits out the door, our crew can almost always haul it. The everyday list:
- Furniture: sofas, sectionals, recliners, mattresses, box springs, bed frames, dressers, tables, chairs, cabinets, office desks.
- Appliances: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, water heaters, AC units.
- Yard waste: branches, brush, leaves, sod, planters, broken garden tools.
- Construction debris: drywall, lumber, tile, flooring, cabinets, fixtures from a remodel.
- Household junk: boxes, bags, kid gear, exercise equipment, broken electronics, toys, holiday decorations.
- Special items: hot tubs, jacuzzis, pianos, pool tables, sheds, fence panels, swing sets.

Items That Need Special Handling in Santa Barbara County
California has strict rules about a few categories. Local junk removal crews can still help with most of these, but the items go to designated recycling or disposal facilities rather than the regular landfill.
Electronics and E-Waste
TVs, monitors, computers, printers, and battery-powered devices count as e-waste. They cannot go in the regular trash in California. We take them and drop them at certified e-waste recyclers across Santa Barbara and Goleta. Same for old cell phones, tablets, and most cables. If you have a stack of e-waste, mention it when you book so we plan the route.
Refrigerators, Freezers, and AC Units
These contain refrigerant gases that have to be reclaimed before disposal. We handle the pickup; we work with local recyclers who pull the refrigerant safely so it stays out of the atmosphere. No extra work on your end.
Paint, Chemicals, and Hazardous Materials
This is the area where most junk removal companies have to draw a line. We cannot haul liquid paint, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks (full), pool chemicals, pesticides, solvents, or anything labeled flammable or toxic. The good news: Santa Barbara County runs a free Household Hazardous Waste drop-off (call 805-882-3602 for the current schedule). Dried-out paint cans with the lids off are usually fine for us to take.
Tires, Batteries, and Other Specials
Tires (no rims, no more than four at a time) and car batteries can usually be handled with a quick note when you book. Many auto parts stores in Santa Barbara take used batteries for free.
What About Medical Waste, Asbestos, or Biohazards?
These need licensed specialists. We never haul sharps, pharmaceutical waste, asbestos tile, or anything contaminated with biohazards. If you suspect asbestos in old flooring or insulation, do not let any junk removal crew pull it out, ask your remodeling contractor for a tested professional first.
How Pickup Day Actually Goes
You point, we lift. Our crew handles the heavy carry from anywhere on your property: upstairs, basements, backyards, garages, attics. You do not move things to the curb. Once everything is loaded, we sweep the area and you only pay for what we actually take. New customers save 10% on the first job.
Not sure if we take it?
